Mint's New Season to Include Glass Cage and Mrs. Holroyd

By Adam Hetrick
21 Jul 2008

The Glass Cage and The Widowing of Mrs. Holroyd have been announced for the 2008-2009 Mint Theater season Off-Broadway.

The American premiere of J. B. Priestley's The Glass Cage, beginning Sept. 4, will be the first offering of the Mint season.

Lou Jacob will direct Priestley's work, which is set in 1906 Toronto. The cast will feature Gerry Bamman, Chet Carlin, Michael Crane, Chad Hoeppner, Robin Moseley, Saxon Palmer, Jeanine Serralles, Sandra Struthers-Clerc, Fiana Toibin and Jack Wetherall.

In Glass Cage, press notes state, "the McBanes are a pious, Bible-thumping lot, dominated by the bullying David and his bachelor brother, Malcolm. Into their midst comes a strange trio of siblings, the fruits of a marriage between a third, wild McBane brother and a Native American woman. As the three disrupt the puritanical household with their boozing and sexual seduction, we are kept in the dark as to their ultimate purpose. Finally, Priestley makes it clear that they are hell-bent on revenge for the way their late dad was cheated of his rightful inheritance," according to press notes.

The design team includes Roger Hanna (set design), Camille Assaf (costume design), Marcus Doshi (lighting design) and Lindsay Jones (sound design).

The Mint's winter production will be D.H. Lawrence's autobiographical drama The Widowing Of Mrs. Holroyd. Under the direction of Stuart Howard, the production begins performances Feb. 4. Casting and creative duties will be announced at a later date.

Tickets are available by phoning (212) 315-0231. The Mint Theater Company is located at 311 West 43rd Street in New York.
