A new musical entitled Robin and the 7 Hoods is aiming for a Broadway opening in spring 2010, according to its producers.

Producers Barry Brown, Bruce Charet, Dennis Mastro, Dennis Farina and Billy Campbell announced July 23 that the new musical will feature a book by Peter Ackerman and a score by Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen. Tony nominee Casey Nicholaw will direct and choreograph the production.

A re-thinking of the 1964 Warner Brothers film of the same name, Robin and the 7 Hoods will, press notes state, "shine a Broadway light on that sexy era in pop culture that ushered in the 1960's and whose hold remains firm on the American psyche – where James Bond reigned supreme, martinis flowed freely, and Sinatra and Martin ruled the night."

Theatregoers can expect to hear such Cahn-Van Heusen songs as "My Kind of Town," "Come Fly with Me" and "Call Me Irresponsible," among others.

In a statement producer Charet said, "The intersection of the sexual revolution and the Camelot years will come to life every night on our stage. That moment in time, which personifies 'cool' is at the heart of our show and, thankfully, we have the wonderful songs by Cahn and Van Heusen which so eloquently express all that make that period unique."

The production will feature musical supervision by John McDaniel, costume design by Tony winner Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Tony winner Natasha Katz and hair and wig design by Josh Marquette.

Casey Nicholaw received Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for his work on The Drowsy Chaperone as well as Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Choreography for Spamalot. He also directed and choreographed the Encores! production of Follies and choreographed the Encores! production of Bye Bye Birdie and the New York Philharmonic staging of Candide as well as the Carnegie Hall presentation of South Pacific.

Casting will be announced at a later date.
