PS 122 Announces Fall Schedule of Premieres

Southern Promises, Point Blank, Blind.ness and Waves of Mu will be part of the fall Performance Space 122 season.
The world premiere of Thomas Bradshaw's Southern Promises is the first offering of the new season, running Sept. 6-27. Directed by Jose Zayas, the work from the author of Strom Thurmond Is Not a Racist and Cleansed is described as such: "When the master of the plantation dies, he wills his slaves to be freed, but his wife doesn't believe that good property should be squandered."
In Reid Farrington's multimedia piece The Passion Project, actress Shelley Kay will portray Joan of Arc onstage, while the 1928 silent film "The Passion of Joan of Arc" — featuring Melle Falconetti as Joan — surrounds her. The world premiere runs Sept. 10-20.
Norway's performance collective Verdensteatret presents the New York premiere of Louder, created from the group's journey through Vietnam, Sept. 25-28. In Louder, press notes state, "reason ends as the spectator is engulfed by a vast and visual soundscape, encountering cycles of transformation and the layering of tales from the past and present."
The WaxFactory returns to New York with the world premiere of Blind.ness, running Oct. 12-Nov. 1. Directed by Ivan Talijancic and co-written with Slovenian playwright Simona Semenic, "Blind.ness follows a powerhouse all-female cast on an emotional roller coaster ride across the dark and wildly humorous underbelly of love."
Amy Caron's Waves of Mu will be presented Oct. 10-19. Inspired by the concept of mirror neurons and behavior, Caron's "beautifully complex two-room installation-performance drives multidisciplinary art headlong into new territory."
The Jo Strømgren Kompani offers The Society, Oct. 15-19. "A society of sworn coffee drinkers gather together for their daily ritual. The harmony is broken by a horrific incident: the discovery of a used teabag. As the investigations unfold, one question is inevitable: How far will they go in order to track the traitor down, smoke him out, and bring this evil act to justice?"
The world premiere of Joseph Silovsky's Jester of Tonga will run Nov. 13-23. "Joe and his engaging robot Stanley tell the very true and very dramatically complicated story of Jesse Bogdonoff, the sensational and modern-day Court Jester to the Tongan Royal Court."
Oliver Butler directs the world premiere of The Debate Society's Cape Disappointment, running Nov. 22-Dec. 7. Pamela Payton-Wright, Hannah Bos, Paul Thureen and Michael Cyril Creighton perform the drive-in movie-inspired work that "presents a very-close-up absurdist perspective on classic Americana."
Edit Kaldor has collaborated with filmmaker Frank Theys to present the U.S. premiere of Point Blank, Dec. 11-14. "Using a fictional character, Nada, Kaldor explores the patch-working together of a past that closely resembles her own. Kaldor invites the 19-year-old Nada to present her large collection of photographs - for years she has been observing people, taking 'spy-photos' of them, capturing their private moments. The core of Nada's interest is to trace the various life-strategies that people follow."
Dance works presented at PS122 include the double bill of Diptyque: A Standing Boy and With My Own Hands (Oct. 3-4), Sara Juli's Death (Oct. 24-Nov. 2), Goat Island's final performance work The Lastmaker (Nov. 6-16) and Lewis Forever: Freak the Room (Dec. 2-14).
PS122 will also host Meow Meow's latest cabaret The Love Show, with dates to be announced shortly.
