Russell to Direct Carradine in Off-Broadway's Mindgame

Keith Carradine, who was most recently seen on Broadway as con man Lawrence Jameson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, will return to the New York stage this fall in an Off-Broadway production of Anthony Horowitz's Mindgame.

British film director Ken Russell will helm the thriller, which is scheduled to begin previews at the SoHo Playhouse Oct. 28 with an official opening Nov. 9. Carradine will be joined onstage by Lee Godart.

Mindgame, which was seen in 2000 in the West End, is described as such: "When a writer of pulp crime novels gets an interview with a notorious serial killer he believes he has snared the coup of his career. But when he arrives at the asylum, he finds nothing can be trusted, not even his own eyes. Through a series of lies, manipulations and memories, dark secrets are revealed. Why is there a skeleton in the doctor's office? Where did the raw meat in the fridge come from? What is the nurse so afraid of? …and most importantly, how does one get out?" Carradine will play Dr. Farquhar with Godart as Mark Styler.

In a statement director Russell said, "After reading Mindgame, I was convinced that I had to direct this play in New York. Anthony has written a fascinating thriller with a new surprise every five minutes. I am delighted and honored to have this intriguing play as my off-Broadway debut."

Actor Carradine added, "Mindgame is unlike anything I've done in the theatre before. Anthony Horowitz has written an utterly absorbing, unnerving and constantly surprising play. And I can't imagine a more perfect director for this piece than the legendary Ken Russell. This should be quite a ride!"

Beowulf Boritt is the scenic designer. Producers of Mindgame are Monica Tidwell, Darren Lee Cole and Michael Butler.

Keith Carradine made his Broadway debut in Hair and also appeared in Foxfire, The Will Rogers Follies (Tony nomination) and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. His film credits include "Nashville," "Choose Me," "Southern Comfort" and "Pretty Baby." The singer-songwriter received an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for "I'm Easy," which was heard in the film "Nashville."

Show times are Tuesday-Saturday at 8 PM with Sunday performances at 3 and 7 PM.

SoHo Playhouse is located at 15 Vandam Street. Tickets, priced $64-$74, are available by visiting www.sohoplayhouse.com or by calling the box office at (212) 691-1555 between noon and 8:30 PM.
