Broadway's De Shields to Star in Flea's Cato Revival; I Must Be Off to Follow

André De Shields will star in the upcoming production of Joseph Addison's Cato at the Flea Theater. Jim Simpson will stage that work as well as Roger Rosenblatt's I Must Be Off, which will follow.

Artistic director Simpson and Flea producing director Carol Ostrow announced the downtown Manhattan troupe's fall season.

The shows that will play the Flea include:

Cato - (Oct. 10-Nov. 2)
In 1713 Joseph Addison penned Cato, which became a quick hit. "This 5-act play tells the story of Cato the younger (95-46 B.C.), a Roman Statesman who took sides with Pompey in an unsuccessful civil war against Julius Caesar," as show notes reveal. "The play takes place in the city of Utica, where Cato and a small Roman Senate stand ready to defend the last vestige of the Roman Republic against Caesar." André De Shields (The Full Monty) will star. Further casting TBA.

I Must Be Off (Nov. 13-30)
Roger Rosenblatt (Ashley Montana Goes Ashore in the Caicos...) returns to the Flea with his latest stage work, an evening of two one acts: The Oldsmobiles and Blueberry. Casting is yet to be announced.

The Flea recently presented Will Eno's Oh, the Humanity and Other Exclamations starring Marisa Tomei; Peter Handke's Offending the Audience; and Beau Willimon's Hurricane Katrina-based drama Lower Ninth, featuring Gaius Charles and James McDaniel.
