Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker will kick off Baltimore Centerstage's 2008-2009 Mainstage season.
Directed by Centerstage artistic director Irene Lewis, previews will begin Sept. 10 with an official opening scheduled for Sept. 17. The production will run through Oct. 12 in the Pearlstone Theater.
Caitlin O'Connell will star in the title role as matchmaker Dolly Levi with Edward Gero as Horace Vandergelder. The cast will also feature Pamela Payton Wright and associate artist Laurence O'Dwyer.
The Matchmaker — which was the source material for Jerry Herman's Hello, Dolly! — is "a romantic comedy of mistaken identities, inappropriate hook-ups, and the constraints of class," according to press notes.
Tickets, priced $10-$60, are available by calling (410) 332-0033 or by visiting www.centerstage.org.
