Track Listing Announced for "Jason Danieley and the Frontier Heroes" Disc, Due Sept. 16

Track Listing Announced for "Jason Danieley and the Frontier Heroes" Disc, Due Sept. 16

"Jason Danieley and the Frontier Heroes," the new CD from Broadway actor-singer and his pals in the folk-pop band The Frontier Heroes, will be in stores Sept. 16, from PS Classics.

The label announced that 20 percent of the profit of each CD will be contributed to the Alzheimer's Association.

"This album…is based on the musical roots of my family," Danieley writes in album notes on the Frontier Heroes website. "I like to think of it as a remembrance and tribute to the memory of that amazing time in my life. I have dedicated this album to the memory of my maternal grandma Reva Vickery. She was right there all along, playing a big part in the making of those memories. In the late '90s she was struck with the horrible disease Alzheimer's. It shook our family to the core. That jovial rolly-polly woman, who reminded me of Lou Costello, disappeared behind her large glasses. Alzheimer's renders your mind blank as years of your personal history disappear. It causes you to behave unlike the person you were all your life, even forget the name of the man you have been married to for over 50 years or the fact that you were married to him at all."

He continued, "This music is for her. For the last several years of her life, due to her Alzheimer's, she couldn't remember many things about her life or her family. But she always enjoyed the music."

Of the Alzheimer's Association, he stated, "I'm glad they are there and hope you will join me in helping them help others in finding a cure for this disease."

PS Classics, the company dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American popular song, seems a perfect match for the new disc, which will feature fresh arrangements of songs drawn from an eclectic songbook. The songwriters include Lionel Bart, Leslie Bricusse, James Van Heusen & Sammy Cahn, Loudon Wainwright III, George Michael and Stevie Wonder.

The track listing includes "Sold (The Grundy County Auction)," "Be My Love," "As Long As She Needs Me," "Something to Save," "All of Me," "Honey," "One Man Guy," "What Kind of Fool Am I?," "No One to Love," "I Believe," "This Moment," "Ain't That a Kick in the Head" and "Spread a Little Love Around."

The Frontier Heroes' critically acclaimed concert, Love: A Work in Progress, was most recently performed at Birdland Jazz Club in February 2008, and was adapted for this disc.

St. Louis native Danieley recently starred as Aaron Fox in Kander & Ebb's musical Curtains on Broadway.

According to PS Classics, "Danieley notes that this blend of 'Eclectic Americana' is reminiscent of Sunday Suppers with his extended family, where his appreciation for blues, country, folk, Broadway, and standard repertoire began."

Danieley and pianist/composer/arranger Dan Lipton have created fresh arrangements of familiar American songs. The Frontier Heroes "wrap their guitars, fiddles, and voices around" the numbers. The band comprises Dan Lipton, Christian Hebel, Mark Vanderpoel, Michael Aarons, Damien Bassman and Theresa McCarthy.

Danieley's theatre credits include The Full Monty, Floyd Collins, South Pacific at Carnegie Hall, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for Encores!, and Harold Prince's Broadway revival of Candide, for which he earned a Drama Desk nomination in 1997.

Danieley and his wife, Broadway leading lady Marin Mazzie, can be heard on the PS Classics recording of their acclaimed album of duets, "Opposite You," which originally debuted as part of Lincoln Center's American Songbook Series. Danieley can also be heard on the recordings of Dream True, "The Stephen Schwartz Album," "Jule Styne in Hollywood," and two recordings with the prestigious Boston Pops, "A Splash of Pops" and "My Favorite Things."
