Bill Russell to Direct Pageant at Stoneham Theatre in Massachusetts; Cast Announced

By Andrew Gans
15 Aug 2008

Side Show's Bill Russell will direct a limited engagement of Pageant, the Off-Broadway musical for which he co-wrote book and lyrics with Frank Kelly, at the Stoneham Theatre in Massachusetts.

Performances are scheduled for Sept. 11-Oct 5. Shea Sullivan choreographs.

The cast will comprise John Ambrosino as Miss Deep South, Nick Cearley as Miss Great Plains, Paul Iacono as Miss Coast West, Michael Joyce as Miss Bible Belt, Danny O'Connor as Miss Texas, Nick Rowe as Frankie Cavalier and Corbitt Williams a Miss Industrial Northeast.

Pageant, which was conceived by Robert Longbottom, features book and lyrics by Russell and Frank Kelly and music by Albert Evans. The musical, according to press notes, is described as "like no beauty pageant you've seen before. Six young men dressed as six young women compete in a prestigious beauty pageant to determine who will be the new Miss Glamouresse. This silly, fun musical is Miss America meets 'Some Like It Hot.' And you may even get to choose the winner!"

The Stoneham production will also feature musical direction by Mario Cruz, lighting by Frank Meissner, costumes by Stephen Yearick, set by Ryan McGettigan and sound by Robbie Jarvis. Arkansas Light is the stage manager.

Bill Russell, who wrote the book and lyrics for Side Show, also penned the book and lyrics for Off-Broadway's Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens and Pageant. His other book/lyric credits include Up in the Air, Lucky Duck, Kept, Fourtune, The Texas Chainsaw Musical and Family Style.

Show times are Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 4 and 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.

For tickets call (781) 279-2200 or visit www.stonehamtheatre.org. The Stoneham Theatre is located at 395 Main Street in Stoneham, MA.
