Point Foundation — the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students of merit — will honor Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth during the organization's annual Los Angeles benefit, Point Honors, Sept. 13 at the Jim Henson Studios.

Chenoweth will be presented with the Point Courage Award, which "recognizes an individual who has advocated for the future of the LGBT community and lives with the vision that investing in today's potential will produce a brighter tomorrow." The company Wells Fargo will also be honored at the upcoming event: Well Fargo will receive the Point Inspiration Award, which "recognizes a corporation or organization that champions respect and inclusion of the LGBT community and operates with the vision that investing in today's potential will produce a brighter tomorrow."

In a statement Jorge Valencia, executive director and chief executive officer of Point Foundation, said, "Not only does Kristin Chenoweth lead a phenomenally successful career as an actress and singer, she is an outspoken supporter of the LGBT community, often taking unpopular stances with conservative media outlets and it is with great pleasure that we will present her with the Point Courage Award. As a public figure with the integrity to speak her convictions, she is an extremely visible source of hope and inspiration to our current and potential Point Scholars."

Actress Chenoweth added, "I am deeply honored to receive the Point Courage Award. Through Point Foundation's scholarships and community, the organization empowers its scholars and gives them the support and encouragement to excel both academically and personally. The knowledge I gained as a student provided me with the essential tools to lay the foundation for my career. I believe deeply in the power of education and applaud all students who continue to pursue their educational goals in the face of obstacles."

Kristin Chenoweth, who received a Tony nomination for her work as Glinda in Stephen Schwartz's Wicked, has been seen on the New York stage in The Fantasticks, Scapin, Steel Pier, A New Brain, Epic Proportions, Strike Up the Band, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, The Apple Tree, Stairway to Paradise and Candide. The actress won her Tony Award for her performance as Sally Brown in the Broadway bow of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Chenoweth recently released her second solo recording, "As I Am" (Sony Classical), and her screen credits include "Kristin," "The West Wing," "The Music Man," "The Pink Panther," "Stranger Than Fiction," "Deck the Halls" and "Running with Scissors." Chenoweth can currently be seen on the new ABC series "Pushing Daisies."
