Students submitted ten-minute plays that were then selected by a panel of judges to be presented during the one-day event. The young playwrights directed their plays, populated by a cast of campers, under the guidance of a dramaturg. Winners were announced Aug. 11.
Winning plays include: Pass The Salt by Aliza Rosen, A Genuine Fairy Tale by Katherine Boorstein, I'll be Waitin' by Abby Goldfarb, Ugly Yellow Monsters by J.D. Morris, What in Creation Was That All About by Sonya Hayden, Bedside Manner by Jordan Friend, Something in the Rain by Adela Jaffe, Personal Admissions by Phoebe Nir, The Savannah Monologues by Caroline Burke, The Death of Andrews by Ben Kaye, Unacceptable Truth by Sophia Washburn, Romantic Comedy by Eleanor Bray, Voices From Sunset Strip by Amanda Kohr, Stages of a Woman by Kendra Norton and What Lovely Music by Harrison Beck.
The winning plays will be published later this fall in the first DramaFest anthology.
Stagedoor Manor, the summer theatre camp in the Catskills that has a roster of A-list showbiz alumni, provides training in performance as well as technical theatre and television. In 2006 Stagedoor presented the world premiere of the stage adaptation of High School Musical.
