Gods of Autumn, with Emick, Phillips, Brown and Conklin, Makes World Premiere Aug. 20

The world premiere of Jack Murphy's Gods of Autumn, the final offering in the 2008 "Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy" series at the Kennedy in Raleigh, NC, begins performances Aug. 20.

Directed by playwright Murphy, the production will play the North Carolina venue through Aug. 31.

Tony Award winner Jarrod Emick (Damn Yankees) and Jessica Phillips (Next to Normal) head the cast. They are joined onstage by North Carolina actors Dorothy Brown (as Evelyn), Gilly Conklin (as Evelyn's Mom/Nurse), Holden Hansen (as The Other Part), K Sridhar (as Calcutta Voice) and Hilary Russo (as Southern Voice).

Gods of Autumn, according to press notes, "is a play about how three very different people, who never would have met in the course of their normal lives, are thrown together to face their own mortality. But it's really not so much a story of how we die as it is a story about how we live. As one of the characters, Mary, played by Phillips, says, 'Maybe you just have to take your best guess and keep heading West like Columbus — keep telling the crew something's out there just over the horizon ... something solid and constant and true, and then hope to God there is. Maybe, that's what life is all about — holding on and hoping."

In a previous statement producer Michael Kennedy said, "I knew right away Gods of Autumn would be a perfect fit for the type of theatre we produce. It's been such a thrill to work with Jack and help him produce this new work that we're all so proud of."

The creative team also includes Christine Rapp (production stage manager), Curtis Jones (technical director), Brian L. Hunt (sound designer), Thomas Mauney (lighting designer), Robin Hughes (properties master), Casey Watkins (costume designer) and James Dadosky (production assistant).

Show times are Wednesdays-Saturdays at 8 PM with Sunday matinees at 3 PM.

Tickets, priced $27.50, are available by calling (919) 834-4000 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com. For more information go to www.hotsummernightsatthekennedy.org.
