York Will Present Free Readings of Greyhound in the Rain and Sweet William

By Andrew Gans
20 Aug 2008

The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series will continue in the fall with free readings of A Broken Down Greyhound in the Rain and Sweet William.

P.J. Barry's play, A Broken Down Greyhound in the Rain, will be presented Sept. 23 at 7:30 PM. The play, which is set in a flooded Connecticut town, concerns "an ex-Colonel and a young musician [who] wind up in a jail cell, both accused of separate crimes involving a bus accident."

Sweet William will be offered Oct. 6 at 3 PM. The musical was penned by Bill Solly (book, music and lyrics) and Donald Ward (book) and tells the tale of a "young Will Shakespeare [who] goes on the road with the Stratford Players and meets a girl called William. Along the way he also has to cope with a vicious boy-player, several theatrical crises, unexpected romance, and a bear."

Casting will be announced at a later date.

The readings will be presented at the York's home at The Theatre at Saint Peter's on 54th Street, east of Lexington Avenue. Although the readings are free, reservations are required by emailing Jeff Landsman at Jlandsman@yorktheatre.org (include name, phone number, the show's title and the number of tickets) or by calling (212) 935-5824, ext. 24.
