LAST CHANCE: Rent, Boo, Whoopi and East 14th

By Adam Hetrick
02 Sep 2008

A Broadway rock milestone will say "Goodbye, Love," while an Academy Award-winner and an American Idol exit the Broadway stage the weekend of Sept. 6.

What follows is Playbill.com's weekly "Last Chance" reminder to catch Broadway and Off-Broadway productions before they close.

Closing Sept. 6

  • East 14th: True Tales of a Reluctant Player (Off-Broadway at New World Stages). Don Reed's coming of age tale in '70s Oakland traces his struggle to "keep it real" in a world of religious fanatics, pimps, players, hustlers, and streetwalkers. For tickets, visit East14th.

    Concluding Sept. 7

  • Rent (Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre). Jonathan Larson's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about East Village artists struggling to connect in the age of AIDS, concludes its 12-year run. Will Chase, Renee Goldsberry, Eden Espinosa and Michael McElroy are among the final cast members of the landmark 1996 musical. The final performance is sold out. For other tickets, visit Ticketmaster.

    Goldberg

  • Whoopi Goldberg, Xanadu (Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre). Tony and Academy Award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg ends her limited engagement as conniving muse Calliope the critically praised Tony-nominated stage adaptation of the 1980 cult film. For tickets, visit XanaduOnBroadway.

  • Taylor Hicks, Grease (Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre). Season five "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks croons one last time as Teen Angel in the reality-television-cast revival of the popular 1950s-set musical comedy. For tickets, visit GreaseOnBroadway.

  • The Marriage of Bette and Boo (Off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre). The Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Christopher Durang's dark comedy about marriage, divorce, alcoholism, nervous breakdowns and death — starring Tony Award winners John Glover and Victoria Clark, plus Christopher Evan Welch and Kate Jennings Grant, among others — ends its limited run. For tickets, visit RoundaboutTheatre.
