Dreyfuss, Molina, Cox, Ruffalo and Giamatti Will Be Part of L.A. Theatre Works Season

Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss, Mark Ruffalo, Hector Elizondo, Emily Bergl and Paul Giamatti will take part in L.A. Theatre Works' 2008-2009 season.
Ten works, including George Packer's Betrayed, The Rivalry, The Real Thing, Art and the U.S. premiere of Beloved Clara and Odyssey of Love, will be presented and subsequently broadcast on L.A.T.W.'s nationally syndicated radio theatre series, "The Play's The Thing."
In addition, L.A.T.W. productions of Betrayed, This Is Our Youth and Art will feature members of the original New York casts.
Just in time for the election, the season kicks off with Norman Corwin's The Rivalry, running Oct. 15-19. David Strathairn and Paul Giamatti star as two presidential candidates, "one a rising Illinois legislator, the other a bombastic US Senator."
Rosalind Ayres will direct Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, "a witty comedy about marriage and writing, emotional fidelity and intellectual integrity, high art and pop culture." Performance dates are Nov. 12-16.
In addition to directing The Real Thing, Ayres will also star in the U.S. premieres of Beloved Clara and Odyssey of Love, running Dec. 3-7. Both plays with music, Clara follows the life of Robert Schumann, his wife Clara and Johannes Brahms, while Odyssey centers on Franz Liszt and his relationships with Marie d'Agoult and Princess Carolyne von Sayn Wittgenstein. Mitch Jarvis directs and co-stars in the work composed of actual letters and diaries. Award-winning pianist Lucy Parham will accompany both plays.
The new year begins with Ceremonies in Dark Old Men, directed by original cast member Judyann Elder and running Jan. 14-18, 2009. Penned by Oscar nominee Lonne Elder III, Ceremonies is a "portrait of a Harlem family that dreams of a better life but pursues it in tragic ways."
New York cast members Waleed F. Zuaiter and Sevan Greene will reprise their roles in Betrayed, which will run Feb. 18-22, 2009. Under the direction of Eric Stoltz, journalist George Packer's drama follows "three young Iraqi translators who risk everything for America's promise of freedom while their country collapses around them."
The L.A.T.W. production of Kenneth Lonergan's This Is Our Youth, running March 18-22, 2009, will reunite original cast members Mark Ruffalo, Josh Hamilton and Missy Yager as 1980's pot-smoking teenagers at the dawn of the Reagan era.
Yasmina Reza's Olivier and Tony Award-winning comedy Art welcomes back Broadway cast members Alfred Molina and Brian Cox under the direction of Peter Levin. Running April 15-19, 2009, Art asks, "How much would you pay for a painting with nothing on it? Would it be art?"
The L.A.T.W. double-bill of H. G. Wells' "War of the Worlds," adapted for radio by Howard Koch, and Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World," adapted by John de Lancie and Nat Segaloff, will run May 13-17.
Neil Patrick Harris, Hamish Linklater and Emily Bergl will star in Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, June 17-21, 2009. Michael Hackett directs the "stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers and a lost handbag."
The final offering of the season will be Friedrich Durrenmatt's The Physicists, running July 8-12, 2009. Brendon Fox directs Richard Dreyfuss, Hector Elizondo and Amy Pietz in the dark satire that "probes the cost of sanity among men of science and whether it is the mad who are the truly sane."
