Mamma Mia! will surpass the record-breaking run of Jerry Herman's Hello, Dolly! when it plays its 2,845th performance Sept. 5 at 8 PM. The cast will celebrate the milestone following the 2,844th performance Sept. 4.
The New York company currently features Carolee Carmello as Donna, Carrie Manolakos as Sophie, Judy McLane as Tanya, Gina Ferrall as Rosie, Andy Kelso as Sky, Michael Pemberton as Bill, Ben Livingston as Harry and Christopher Shyer as Sam.
Mamma Mia! employs the hit songs of famed pop group ABBA to tell the story of Sophie Sheridan, a young girl who hopes to discover the identity of her father. On the eve of her wedding, she brings three men from her mother Donna's past back to the Greek island they visited over two decades ago.
A film version of Mamma Mia! — starring Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan – has currently earned $339,613,880 worldwide.
Mamma Mia! and the music of ABBA recently scored a triple play: The soundtrack to the film, the original cast recording of Mamma Mia! and the "ABBA Gold" compilation all reached the top spot on their respective charts (soundtrack chart, Broadway chart and Catalogue chart) the week of July 28.
The Winter Garden Theatre is located in Manhattan at 1634 Broadway. Show times are Wednesday-Saturday at 8 PM with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday performances at 2 and 7 PM.
