Lahti and Cristofer Join Primary Stages Cast of Blessing's Body of Water

Christine Lahti and Michael Cristofer have joined the cast of Primary Stages' upcoming production of Lee Blessing's A Body of Water, which will play 59E59 Theaters this fall.

Lahti and Cristofer replace the previously announced Margaret Colin and David Rasche, respectively. Colin, according to a press statement, departed the production due to scheduling conflicts for TV's "Gossip Girl"; Rasche will now be seen in Manhattan Theatre Club's To Be or Not To Be on Broadway.

Body of Water's first preview, originally scheduled for Sept. 30, will now be presented Oct. 3. Opening remains Oct. 14.

Primary Stages artistic director Andrew Leynse told Variety, "The greatest nightmare is when you wake up to find two out of three of your cast missing, which is what happened to us right on the Labor Day weekend. But I found you can actually get a lot of work done over Labor Day, so it's turned out great."

Directed by Maria Mileaf, the New York premiere of Blessing's three-hander will now feature Lahti ("Chicago Hope," Three Hotels) as Avis, Laura Odeh (The Rivals) as Wren and Cristofer (Trumpery, Romeo and Juliet) as Moss. Performances will continue through Nov. 9.

A Body of Water, according to press notes, "is a haunting drama that explores the slippery nature of reality and conviction. Avis and Moss awake one morning in a house set in the forested hills above a picturesque body of water. The weather's great, the view's magnificent. However, neither of them seems to know whose house this is or who they are. Will the stranger at their doorstep be able to help?"

The creative team will also include Neil Patel (set), Candice Donnelly (costumes), Jeff Croiter (lights) and Bart Fasbender (sound). The production stage manager is Bonnie Brady.

Blessing is also the author of A Walk in the Woods and Going to St. Ives.

59E59 Theaters is located at 59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues. Tickets, priced $60, are available by calling (212) 279-4200 or by visiting www.ticketcentral.com.
