Benanti, Butler, Hoff, Lazar, Leavel, Neuwirth and More Set for Flea Market Photo Booths

By Andrew Gans
17 Sep 2008

Tony Award winner Beth Leavel.

A host of Broadway and daytime drama favorites will take part in the Celebrity Photo Booths, part of the 22nd Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction that will be held Sept. 21 in Shubert Alley to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The day-long event is scheduled to begin at 10 AM ET and continue to 7 PM.

Those who will be part of the Celebrity Photo Booths include Laura Benanti (Gypsy), Kerry Butler (Xanadu), Mario Cantone ("Sex & The City"), Melissa Claire Eagan ("All My Children"), Bailey Hanks (Legally Blonde), Van Hansis & Jake Silbermann ("As The World Turns"), Christian Hoff (Jersey Boys, Pal Joey), Aaron Lazar (Tale of Two Cities), Beth Leavel (Young Frankenstein), Priscilla Lopez (In the Heights), Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago), Chris March ("Project Runway"), Lynne Redgrave (Grace, "Georgy Girl"), as well as cast members from In the Heights and [title of show].

Two Celebrity Photo Booths will be in operation:

First booth: "For a minimum $10 donation, individual celebrities from the autograph tables will come to the booth and have their photos taken with fans. Each BC/EFA photo will include one autographed photo frame. Individual celebrities for the first photo booth will be announced at the Flea Market & Grand Auction throughout the day."

Second booth: "For a minimum of $40, special groupings of celebrities (groups of 2 or more) are scheduled and available to have their photo taken with fans. Each BC/EFA photo will include one autographed photo frame."

Special groupings that are currently scheduled for Sept. 21:

  • Starting at 11 AM: Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann from "As The World Turns."

  • Starting at noon: cast members from In the Heights.

  • Starting at 1 PM: cast members from [title of show].

Additional participants will be announced on the BC/EFA website.

Last year's Flea Market — held Sept. 23, 2007, in Shubert Alley — raised $559,810 for BC/EFA. The tables that raised the most money included Broadway Beat ($15,016) and United Scenic Artists ($10,402). The show table that took in the most money was Xanadu ($10,138). Tyne Daly's table brought in $6,370, while the Playbill table raised $6,331 for the charitable organization. At the silent auction, a fragment of the score for Jersey Boys' "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" brought in $2,200, while the grand auction took in $12,000 for a walk-on role in Rent with co-stars Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the nation's largest industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. Since its founding in 1988 the organization has distributed over $130 million for services for people with AIDS, HIV or HIV-related illnesses.
