Hair Cast Celebrates International Day of Peace Sept. 21

By Adam Hetrick
21 Sep 2008

The cast of the Broadway-bound Shakespeare in the Park production of Hair reunites Sept. 21 for a final "Be-In" in Central Park.

The cast will gather from 3-7 PM on Frisbee Hill — located just north of the Sheep Meadow Café — to honor the International Day of Peace. The public is invited to partake in the free event and "share flowers, stories, food and music in commemoration of the global holiday honoring peace and unity."

"When we first heard about the International Day of Peace, we knew it would be a great opportunity to further spread the message of peace and harmony that we've been advocating in Hair," said cast member Andrew Kober in a recent statement. "The 'Be-In' is a chance to gather in the park as a community and spend some time together on love and unity."

The United Nations' International Day of Peace is a global holiday where individuals, communities, nations and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace.

As previously reported, the Public Theater announced that Hair will arrive on Broadway in 2009. The tribal love-rock musical penned by James Rado, Gerome Ragni and Galt MacDermot concluded its extended engagement at the Delacorte Theater Sept. 14. The Public has not confirmed casting, dates or a theatre for the Broadway transfer.

Under the direction of Diana Paulus, Hair features choreography by Karole Armitage (Passing Strange).

The cast for the Central Park production included Christopher J. Hanke (Claude), Will Swenson (Berger), Patina Renea Miller (Dionne), Caryn Lyn-Manuel (Sheila), Ato Blankson-Wood (Tribe), Steel Burkhardt (Tribe), Jackie Burns (White Boys Trio/Tribe), Allison Case (Crissy), Lauren Elder (Tribe), Allison Guinn (Tribe), Anthony Hollock (Tribe), Kaitlin Kiyan (Tribe), Andrew Kober (Father/Margaret Mead), Megan Lawrence (Mother), Nicole Lewis (White Boys Trio/Tribe), John M. Moauro (Tribe), Darius Nichols (Hud), Brandon Pearson (Tribe), Megan Reinking (Black Boys Trio/Tribe), Paris Remillard (Tribe), Bryce Ryness (Woof), Saycon Sengbloh (White Boys Trio/Tribe), Maya Sharpe (Tribe), Kacie Sheik (Jeanie), Theo Stockman (Tribe) and Tommar Wilson (Tribe).
