Butz and Federer Take Part in Wicked's "Emerald Curtain" Tour Sept. 27

By Andrew Gans
and Adam Hetrick
27 Sep 2008

Original Wicked cast members Norbert Leo Butz and Michelle Federer, who created the roles of, respectively, Fiyero and Nessarose, are scheduled to be part of the Sept. 27 "Behind the Emerald Curtain," the backstage tour of the hit Broadway musical.

Former Elphaba Eden Espinosa had been announced to be part of the Sept. 27 tour. Due to a previous commitment, however, her appearance will be rescheduled for a new date in October.

The 90-minute tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at the hit musical at the Gershwin Theatre. Run by current and former Wicked cast members, the tour features a 20-minute film of special footage from the musical, interviews with cast and creative team members, as well as a display of Eugene Lee's Tony Award-winning set, an up-close look at some of Tony Award winner Susan Hilferty's costumes and props, wigs and masks from the show.

The tours will continue Oct. 11 with original Wicked cast member Christopher Fitzgerald (Boq) and Oct. 25 with author Gregory Maguire, who penned the best-selling "Wicked" novel.

Wicked currently stars Kendra Kassebaum as Glinda, Kerry Ellis as Elphaba, Cristy Candler as Nessarose, Ben Liebert as Boq, Jayne Houdyshell as Madame Morrible, Steven Skybell as Doctor Dillamond, Aaron Tveit as Fiyero and P.J. Benjamin as The Wizard.

Wicked features a score by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, direction by Joe Mantello and musical staging by Wayne Cilento. The production also includes scenic design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Tony Meola, projections by Elaine J. McCarthy, wig and hair design by Tom Watson, music supervision and arrangements by Stephen Oremus, orchestrations by William David Brohn and dance arrangements by James Lynn Abbott.

Wicked's "Behind the Emerald Curtain" tours are held Saturdays at 10 AM at the Gershwin Theatre. Tickets, priced $25, are available by visiting Ticketmaster, or at the Gershwin Theatre box office.
