Avenue Q Welcomes Beauty's Romano Sept. 29

| photo by Carol Rosegg | Christy Carlson Romano, who created the role of Mary Phagan in Jason Robert Brown's Parade and who played a lengthy stint as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, returns to Broadway Sept. 29 in the Tony-winning musical Avenue Q.
Romano, an Emmy nominee for her performance in the title role of the animated Disney series "Kim Possible," steps into the dual roles of Kate Monster and Lucy. The singing actress is scheduled to stay with the production at the John Golden Theatre through Nov. 23.
Romano joins a cast that features Christian Anderson, Jennifer Barnhart, Nicholas Kohn, Carla Renata, Ann Sanders and Howie Michael Smith.
Christy Carlson Romano has appeared on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast, Parade, The Sound of Music and The Will Rogers Follies. Her screen credits include "Kim Possible" (Emmy nomination), "The Cutting Edge 2," "The Cutting Edge 3," "Campus Confidential," "Cadet Kelly," "Even Stevens," "Everyone Says I Love You" and "Henry Fool." Romano also penned the book "Grace's Turn."
Avenue Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, a book by Jeff Whitty and direction by Jason Moore. The musical is produced by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, The Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.
Puppets were conceived and designed by original cast member Rick Lyon. The production has musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
After an acclaimed Off-Broadway run at the Vineyard Theatre, Avenue Q began previews at the Golden Theatre July 10, 2003, and officially opened July 31. The original cast included Jennifer Barnhart, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Jordan Gelber, Ann Harada, Rick Lyon, John Tartaglia and Natalie Venetian Belcon. The musical won 2004 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical (Jeff Whitty) and Best Original Score (Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx).
The musical celebrated its fifth birthday at Broadway's John Golden Theatre July 31.
