Grové, Andrus, Poulos, Sharkey and Shoop to Populate Illyria for Prospect Theater Company

By Adam Hetrick
01 Oct 2008

Jessica Grové and Brandon Andrus will head the cast of the Prospect Theater Company staging of Peter Mills' musical Illyria, which begins performances Oct. 18 at the Hudson Guild Theatre.

Grové, last seen in the Tony-nominated Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park with George, will star as the disguised Viola, opposite Andrus as Duke Orsino. Cara Reichel directs the production that will continue through Nov. 16.

The Illyria company also includes Jimmy Ray Bennett as Malvolio, Mitch Dean as Sebastian, Ryan Dietz as Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Andrew Miramontes as Antonio, Jim Poulos (Rent) as Feste, Dan Sharkey (Lone Star Love) as Sir Toby Belch, Laura Shoop (Fiddler on the Roof) as Olivia, Tina Stafford as Maria, as well as Lauren Adams, John Mervini, Jed Peterson and Megan Stern.

"Shipwrecked and alone on the shores of a land where 'clarity's a rarity, and madness rules,' Viola disguises herself as her twin brother," read press notes for Illyria. "Entering the service of Duke Orsino, she is quickly drawn in to a tangle of unrequited love with her new master and the mournful Lady Olivia. Meanwhile, Olivia's ne'er-do-well uncle and maid do their best to bring mirth back to the household. Cakes and ale abound and mistaken identity reigns in this gender-bending adventure."

Illyria features choreography by Christine O'Grady and music direction by Daniel Feyer. Additional creative team members include Erica Beck Hemminger (set design), Naomi Wolff (costume design), Ji-youn Chang (lighting design) and Joanna Lynne Staub (sound design).
