Greenspan, Jue and Elrod Read A Horse's Ass for Red Bull Oct. 6

By Adam Hetrick
06 Oct 2008

The Red Bull Theatre Company presents the David Greenspan comedy A Horse's Ass Oct. 6 as part of its Revelation Reading series.

Leigh Silverman (Well) directs the 7 PM staged reading that features the talents of Carson Elrod, Tony Torn, Lucas Papaelias, Satya Bhabha, Francis Jue, Bill Kux, Don Amendolia and playwright David Greenspan.

Based loosely on Pietro Aretino's Renaissance comedy Il Marescalco, press notes for the reading state: "1526. Mantua. A homosexual man will be forced at knifepoint to marry a woman. He's tearing his hair out."

Upcoming Revelation Readings include Percy Bysshe Shelley's The Cenci, directed by Eleanor Holdridge and featuring Lisa Harrow and Roger Rees (Oct. 27); John Marston's The Malcontent, featuring Matthew Rauch under the direction of Ethan McSweeney (Nov. 17); Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, directed by Mark Lamos (Dec. 8); Luis Alfaro's Electricidad, directed by Lisa Peterson (Jan. 12, 2009); Peter Shaffer's The Royal Hunt of the Sun, directed by Joe Hardy (Feb. 23, 2009); and Miguel de Cervantes' The Siege of Numantia, presented by Moisés Kaufman (March 2, 2009).

The Red Bull Theater Company's Revelation Readings are held at the Theater at St. Clement's, located at 423 West 46th Street in Manhattan.

Tickets are available by visiting www.ticketcentral.com or by calling (212) 279-4200.
