Murney, O'Hara, Naughton, Miranda and Jackson Set for Joe's Pub Concerts

By Andrew Gans
07 Oct 2008

A host of theatre favorites will take to the intimate stage of Joe's Pub in November and December.

The Ghostlight Series, which presents a mix of Broadway performers and composers Mondays at 11:30 PM, will continue with Freestyle Love Supreme with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Chris Jackson (Nov. 3), An Evening with Julia Murney (Nov. 24), An Evening with Greg Naughton and Kelli O'Hara (Dec. 1).

Lin-Manuel Miranda won a Tony Award for Best Original Score for In the Heights, the Tony-winning musical in which he also stars. The actor-composer was also Tony-nominated for his performance in Heights.

Christopher Jackson has been seen on Broadway in In the Heights and The Lion King and Off-Broadway in In the Heights. His regional credits include Comfortable Shoes (Jefferson Award, Black Theater Alliance Award nomination) and Beggar's Holiday (BATC nomination). Jackson is a charter member of Freestyle Love Supreme.

Julia Murney made her Broadway debut in Lennon and recently completed a lengthy run as Elphaba in the New York company of Wicked. She received a Drama Desk nomination for her work in Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party, and her other theatrical credits include Saved, Crimes of the Heart, Time and Again, A Class Act, Cloud 9, Snapshots, Mata Hari and the national tour of Wicked. Murney also portrayed Florence in the Chess benefit concert for The Actors' Fund of America and was part of the all-star Children of Eden concert as well. Her solo CD is titled "I'm Not Waiting."

Kelli O'Hara received a 2008 Tony nomination for her performance in the Tony-winning Lincoln Center Theater revival of South Pacific. Prior to South Pacific, O'Hara was most recently on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of The Pajama Game, earning another Tony nomination for her performance as Babe. She was also Tony-nominated for her work as Clara in The Light in the Piazza. O'Hara's other Broadway credits include Jekyll & Hyde, Follies, Sweet Smell of Success and Dracula, the Musical. She was also seen in the Reprise! staging of Sunday in the Park with George. O'Hara's debut solo recording on the Ghostlight Records label is titled "Wonder of the World."

Greg Naughton is a founding member of Off-Broadway's Blue Light Theater Company. He performed in Golden Boy, which co-starred his father James Naughton and was directed by Joanne Woodward, as well as in the premiere of Paul Scott Goodman's rock musical Alive in the World, for which he won a New York Musical Theatre Festival Outstanding Performance Award.
