D'Amboise to Return to Broadway's Chicago in November

By Andrew Gans
08 Oct 2008

Charlotte d'Amboise in Chicago.

Charlotte d'Amboise, who received a Tony nomination for her performance as Cassie in the recent revival of A Chorus Line, will return to the Tony-winning revival of Kander and Ebb's Chicago in November.

Beginning Nov. 3 d'Amboise will once again play merry murderess Roxie Hart in the long-running production at the Ambassador Theatre.

In a statement producer Barry Weissler said, "We're very excited to welcome Charlotte back to the show this November. Speaking on behalf of the entire Chicago family, we always find that her energizing presence and unparalleled talent make her one of the best Roxies we've ever had. She is most definitely an audience favorite."

Chicago currently stars Michelle DeJean as Roxie Hart (through Nov. 2), Tony Award nominee Brenda Braxton as Velma Kelly, two-time Tony Award nominee Tom Wopat as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and Carol Woods as Matron "Mama" Morton. As previously announced, Terra C. MacLeod will appear as Velma Kelly for one week, Oct. 27-Nov. 2.

In addition to Chicago, Charlotte d'Amboise has starred on Broadway in A Chorus Line, Contact, Cats, Song and Dance, Carrie, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, Damn Yankees, Company and Sweet Charity.

Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.

The long-running musical will celebrate its 12th anniversary and its 5,000th performance on Broadway Nov. 14.

Chicago plays the Ambassador Theatre, located at 215 West 49th Street.
