Public Adds Performances to NYC Premiere of Sondheim and Weidman's Road Show

By Adam Hetrick
13 Oct 2008

The Public Theater has added performances to the New York City premiere engagement of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's musical Road Show, which gets underway Oct. 28.

Tony Award-winning director John Doyle stages and designs scenic elements for the Public engagement that stars Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Alexander Gemignani as the Mizner brothers. Road Show officially opens Nov. 18 and will continue through Dec. 28 at The Public's Newman Theater.

The Public has added 2 PM Wednesday matinees throughout the run on Nov. 12 and 26 and Dec. 10 and 17. A Monday evening performance has also been announced for Dec. 22 at 8 PM. Tickets to Road Show officially went on sale to the general public Oct. 12 at 10 AM.

The two-hour work, performed without an intermission, spans 40 years of American history, from the Gold Rush to the Florida real estate boom in the 1930's. "Road Show is the story of two brothers whose quest for the American dream turns into a test of morality and judgment that changes their lives in unexpected ways."

Road Show also features Alma Cuervo, Aisha de Haas, Claybourne Elder, Colleen Fitzpatrick, David Garry, Mylinda Hull, Mel Johnson, Jr., Orville Mendoza, Anne L. Nathan, Tom Nelis, William Parry, Matthew Stocke, Katrina Yaukey, William Youmans and Kristine Zbornik.

Stephen Sondheim delivers the score to Road Show, which features a book by John Weidman; the duo previously collaborated on Pacific Overtures and Assassins. Director John Doyle reunites with his 2006 Company orchestrator and musical supervisor Mary-Mitchell Campbell, who has signed on as musical director for Road Show.

For tickets phone (212) 967-7555 or visit PublicTheater.

The Public Theater is located at 425 Lafayette Street in Manhattan.
