| photo by Kenneth Aaron | Monologist Mike Daisey takes on the Department of Homeland Security in his latest work, If You See Something Say Something, which officially opens at Joe's Pub Oct. 27.
Daisey's collaborator, Jean-Michele Gregory, directs the work, which began performances Oct. 15 and will continue through Nov. 30 at the Public Theater's intimate cabaret space.
Known for his politically and socially charged works, Daisey "investigates the secret history of the Department of Homeland Security through the untold story of the father of the neutron bomb and a personal pilgrimage to the Trinity blast site," according to press notes. "If You See Something Say Something takes us on a journey in search of what it means to be secure and the price we are willing to pay for it."
In a statement Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis said, "Mike Daisey is funny, earnest, wonderful company and so smart he'd burn holes in the ground if he wasn't wearing shoes. If You See Something Say Something is a remarkable analysis of the state of our nation, and Mike Daisey is the kind of theatre artist who ennobles our profession."
Mike Daisey's monologues include How Theater Failed America, Invincible Summer, Monopoly!, Great Men of Genius, The Ugly American, I Miss the Cold War, Wasting Your Breath and Stories From the Atlantic Night Cafe. His first film, "Layover," is being distributed by Lars von Trier's Zentropa, and he stars in the Lawrence Krauser feature "Horrible Child." His first work as a playwright, The Moon Is a Dead World, is currently premiering at Seattle's Annex Theatre. The work was presented in a developmental reading by Soho Rep's Writer/Director Lab in spring 2008.
