Theatre for a New Audience and New York Theatre Workshop co-produce the New York premiere of Brook's staging. Previews began Oct. 22 for the run, which has been extended through Nov. 30.
Director Brook (Marat/Sade) brings Marie-Hélène Estienne's adaptation of the Inquisitor section of Dostoyevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov" to New York. Myers (The Mahabharata) stars in the title role opposite Jake Smith as Christ.
The Grand Inquisitor "takes place in Seville during the Inquisition," according to show notes. "Christ, in his infinite mercy, returns to the world of man in human form and enters the burning streets of the city, where, the previous day, the Grand Inquisitor had sent a hundred heretics into the flames. The Grand Inquisitor has Christ imprisoned and asks, 'Is it you? You?'"
The production, which debuted at The Centre for International Theatre Creations/Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, runs approximately 55 minutes.
