Lisa Kron's Well to Succeed Rain Man at London's Apollo Theatre

Lisa Kron's autobiographical play Well, first seen at New York's Public Theater in 2004 and subsequently at Broadway's Longacre Theatre for a brief run in 2006, will make a return to the West End in December.

After receiving its European premiere in a short run in the Studio 2 space of Trafalgar Studios in September, Well will be revived for a second run of 32 performances only at Shaftesbury Avenue's Apollo Theatre, beginning performances Dec. 29 (prior to an official opening Dec. 30), for a run to Jan. 24, 2009. It will succeed the current production of Rain Man, starring Josh Hartnett and Adam Godley, that closes at the end of its scheduled season on Dec. 20.

The original stars of the Trafalgar Studios run, BBC comedy star Natalie Casey and international film icon Sarah Miles, will re-create their performances for the new run.

Casey (best known for her TV appearances in "Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps" and seen onstage in the stage version of Fame, the U.K. tour of The Wedding Singer and Hobson's Choice at Newbury's Watermill Theatre) plays the role originally played by the author herself: New York performance artist, Lisa, who was sick and then she got well. Her neighborhood, too, was sick, then it got well. "It's as simple as that – or is it?" asks the press materials. Miles, who made her film debut in 1962 as a schoolgirl in "Terms of Trial" opposite Laurence Olivier, and subsequently appeared in such classics as Joseph Losey's "The Servant" and Michelangelo Antonioni's "Blowup," before being Oscar-nominated for Best Actress for her performance in David Lean's "Ryan's Daughter," plays the role of her strong-willed but weak-bodied mother Ann Kron.

Also in the cast is Oliver Chris, best-known for his roles in the TV comedies "The Office" and "Green Wing," as well as productions of The Taming of the Shrew (Wilton's Music Hall) and Peter Hall's productoin of Portrait of a Lady (Bath Theatre Royal).

Well will be directed by Eve Leigh, whose debut production of The Dybbuk was seen at the King's Head in January 2008. Helen Goddard, who won the 2007 Linbury Prize and whose credits include The Masque of the Red Death at BAC and Let There Be Love at the Tricycle, designs.

Well will be produced by Henry Filloux-Bennett, Stephen Makin and The Fish Partnership, all upcoming independent producers making their West End debuts.
