Rigby to Star as Mrs. Claus in The Magical Spirit of Christmas

Tony nominee Cathy Rigby will head the cast of The Magical Spirit of Christmas, which will play a limited engagement in Newport Beach, CA, beginning Nov. 20.

Rigby, known for her work in Peter Pan, will portray Mrs. Claus in the free performances, which also feature Tony nominee Jonelle Allen (Two Gentlemen of Verona) as well as young performers from the California Conservatory of the Arts' "Broadway U" program.

Running Nov. 20-22, the extravaganza boasts original music by the writing team of David Green and John Glaudini, who also created the musical How the Nurse Feels. Performances will be held at Fashion Island.

In The Magical Spirit of Christmas, according to press notes, "Santa Claus has lost the spirit of Christmas. Mrs. Claus sets out on a magical journey in a hot air balloon across the universe to find it, and in time, to save Christmas. The high energy song and dance spectacular is like a west coast version of the famous Radio City holiday show."

Rigby's last Broadway outing was the Broadway musical Seussical. Her stage appearances also include Peter Pan, Sylvia, Li'l Abner, Wizard of Oz, Annie Get Your Gun, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Meet Me in St. Louis and They're Playing Our Song.

A VIP family preview will take place Nov. 20, including a light dinner, dessert reception and silent auction. Tickets for the VIP reception are $10-$40. All performances are free to the public.
