TKTS Downtown Brooklyn Location Adds Saturday Hours, Replacing Monday

By Kenneth Jones
05 Nov 2008

Theatre Development Fund will offer Saturday service at the TKTS Discount booth in downtown Brooklyn, in 1 MetroTech Center at the corner of Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue, starting Nov. 8.

The booth there will be open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 AM-6 PM. The previous hours of operation were Monday-Friday. The Saturday hours replace Monday hours, a day when most shows do not perform.

"We're pleased to be open on Saturdays, thus giving Brooklyn residents and visitors the opportunity to purchase tickets for Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances," said TDF's executive director, Victoria Bailey. "We opened in July with the assistance of the MetroTech BID and NYS Assemblywoman Joan Millman. They were instrumental in helping us work out with MetroTech how to allow us access on the weekend, when the building is closed for business. We know these new Saturday hours will make ticket purchasing much easier for all the theatre lovers in Brooklyn."

TKTS Downtown Brooklyn is located on the ground floor of 1 MetroTech Center at the corner of Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue. TKTS Downtown Brooklyn offers Broadway, Off-Broadway, music, dance and Brooklyn performing arts events at discounted prices to Brooklyn residents and visitors. TKTS offers same-day evening and next-day matinee tickets (that is, Wednesday matinees sold on Tuesday, Saturday matinees sold on Friday and Sunday matinees sold on Saturday) at discounts of up to 50 percent off for Broadway and Off Broadway productions.

As an added service to the Brooklyn customers and to help performing arts groups in Brooklyn, TKTS Downtown Brooklyn offers tickets to events in Brooklyn for the full week in which an event performs.

Additionally, Brooklyn productions (which generally have lower ticket prices than Broadway and Off-Broadway) may choose to sell tickets at both discount and full price. TKTS accepts credit cards, cash and travellers checks.

TKTS is a project of Theatre Development Fund (TDF), a not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. TDF has two other TKTS Discount Booths: a new Times Square TKTS Booth just opened "under the red steps" in the newly renovated Duffy Square, and the Lower Manhattan TKTS Booth is located at South Street Seaport at the corner of Front and John Streets.

Since TKTS first opened for business over 35 years ago on June 25, 1973, over 51 million tickets have been sold at discount prices to millions New Yorkers and visitors. Those admissions represent nearly $1.4 billion in revenue returned to thousands of productions.
