Beth Fowler, who was Tony-nominated for her performance in The Boy From Oz, will star in the upcoming readings of the new musical In the Theatre.
Part of the York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series, the free readings are scheduled for Nov. 24 and 25. Show time each day is 3 PM; David Glenn Armstrong directs. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
In the Theatre features music by Steven Fisher and book and lyrics by Fisher and Joan Ross Sorkin.
The musical, according to the York, is described as such: "Never heard of Joan Littlewood? That's about to change. One of the most important women in twentieth century theatre, Joan was bold, brash, brilliant - and forgotten. And she's not happy about it. Spend some time with Joan and her company of actors. You'll discover what it really means to be 'in the theatre.'"
Beth Fowler portrayed Peter Allen's mother in The Boy From Oz, earning a Tony nomination for her work. She also received a Tony nomination for her performance as Mrs. Lovett in the revival of Sweeney Todd. Among Fowler's other Broadway credits are Inherit the Wind, Beauty and the Beast, Bells Are Ringing, A Little Night Music, Baby and Teddy and Alice.
