Broadway's Chicago Celebrates 12th Anniversary Nov. 14; Fisher-Wilson Joins Cast

LaVon Fisher-Wilson, who made her Broadway debut in The Color Purple, joins the Tony Award-winning revival of John Kander and Fred Ebb's Chicago Nov. 14.
Fisher-Wilson succeeds Carol Woods as Matron "Mama" Morton. The singing actress is scheduled to stay with the long-running production at the Ambassador Theatre through Jan. 1, 2009.
The musical revival also celebrates its 12th anniversary and its 5,000th performance on Broadway Nov. 14.
Chicago currently features Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie Hart, Brenda Braxton as Velma Kelly, Tom Hewitt as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine. (As previously announced, "Office" star Melora Hardin will begin performances as Roxie Hart Dec. 29.)
LaVon Fisher-Wilson received the Suzi Award for her portrayal of Gran Mimi in Jelly's Last Jam at the Alliance and has also been seen in productions of Once on This Island; Crowns; Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope; Dreamgirls; Tommy; and Beehive.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.
Chicago plays the Ambassador Theatre, located at 215 West 49th Street.
