Bookends Reading, with Castle, Collins, Golden, Kemp, Tepper and Wilner, Offered Nov. 19

The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series continues Nov. 19 with a free reading of the new musical Bookends.
The 7:30 PM reading boasts the talents of Susan G. Bob, Matt Castle, Eric Collins, Matt Golden, Kathleen Goldpaugh, Robyn Kemp, Gina Lamparella, Howard Pinhasik, Anthony Newfield, Alan Souza, Eileen Tepper, Jenny Vallancourt and Lori Wilner.
Bookends, which is subtitled A New Musical About Old Friends, features a book by Katharine Houghton, music by Dianne Adams and James McDowell, and lyrics by Houghton, Adams and McDowell.
The reading, according to the York, "is a significantly revised version of the show read at the York last January. We continue to explore what it was that created and drove the life-long friendship between Madeleine Stern and Leona Rostenberg — the real-life, world famous rare-book dealers and authors. This revision, however, adds new songs, new scenes and a new telling of the tale. The musical still intertwines present and past. This time, however, we believe it is even more humorous, charming, poignant, passionate and dramatic as it explores the tensions between characters who treat people and books as commodities – as opposed to those who see both as cherished treasures."
The performance will be presented at the York's home at The Theatre at Saint Peter's on 54th Street, east of Lexington Avenue.
