Will Gandolfini and Harden Star in Broadway Staging of Reza's God of Carnage?

James Gandolfini

Two stage and screen stars may head the cast of a Broadway mounting of Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage this spring.

The New York Post reports that James Gandolfini ("The Sopranos") and Marcia Gay Harden ("Pollock") will star in the upcoming production of Carnage, which features a translation by Christopher Hampton. No official casting has been announced.

God of Carnage ended its run at London's Gielgud Theatre in June. That production, which co-starred Ralph Fiennes, Tamsin Greig, Janet McTeer and Ken Stott, was directed by Matthew Warchus.

The play tells what happens when two sets of parents meet up to deal with the unruly behavior of their children. Will it be a calm and rational debate between grown-ups about the need to teach kids how to behave properly? Or will it turn into a hysterical night of name-calling, tantrums and tears before bedtime?

Marcia Gay Harden was Tony-nominated for her performance in Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and was also seen on Broadway in Angels in America: Perestroika. She won an Academy Award for her performance in "Pollock" and was Oscar-nominated for her work in "Mystic River."

Emmy Award winner James Gandolfini has appeared on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire (1992) and On the Waterfront (1995). He is best known, however, for playing Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos."

Reza is a Paris-based playwright whose hit play Art became a global success after its first West End production at Wyndham's Theatre in 1996.
