Casting Announced for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre

By Adam Hetrick
19 Nov 2008

Edward Watts and Laura Griffith will head the cast of the new production of the family classic Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which will begin performances at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle Dec. 3.

Watts, who starred as Adam in the 2007 Paper Mill Playhouse production of the Gene de Paul and Johnny Mercer musical, reprises his work as Adam alongside Griffith (Lincoln Center's South Pacific) as his bride Milly.

Luke Longacre, Demian Boergadine, Karl Warden, Kyle Patrick Vaughn, Wes Hart, Mo Brady will play, respectively, brothers Benjamin, Caleb, Daniel, Ephraim, Frank and Gideon, respectively. The brides are Meaghan Foy, Brittany Jamieson, Shanna Marie Palmer, Sara Christine Parish, Amanda Paulson and Maya RS Perkins.

The Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ensemble comprises David Alewine, Jeffrey Alewine, Neil Badders, Logan Benedict, Eric Chappelle, Ross Cornell, Daniel Cruz, Christian Duhamel, Michael Ericson, Ann Evans, Hannah Lagerway, Justin Ramsey, James Scheider, Robertson Witmer and Vickielee Wohlbach.

Running through Dec. 28 at the 5th Avenue Theatre, Seven Brides features choreography by Patti Colombo, who also choreographed the Paper Mill run of Seven Brides. The latest incarnation has direction by Allison Narver and musical direction by Valerie Gebert. An opening night has been set for Dec. 5.

Based on the Academy Award-Winning 1954 MGM film by Stanley Donen, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has music by Gene de Paul, lyrics by Johnny Mercer and a book by Lawrence Kasha and David S. Landay.

According to press notes, "This rip-roarin' musical comedy classic begins when Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, goes to town to get a wife. He miraculously convinces Milly to marry him that same day and she immediately starts reforming her six rowdy brothers-in-law. Clever, spunky Milly whips those rough 'n tumble boys into shape."

The design team includes Anna Louizos (set designer), Tom Sturge (lighting designer) and Geof Alm (fight director).

Tickets for the Seattle run, priced $22-$81, are available by calling (206) 625-1900 or by visiting www.5thavenue.org.
