December "Doubt" Screening in Manhattan to Benefit The Actors Fund

| photo by Andrew Schwartz/Miramax Film Corp. | A screening of the forthcoming film "Doubt," based on the award-winning Broadway play of the same name, will be screened in Manhattan to benefit The Actors Fund of America.
The Dec. 7 screening will be held at The Paris Theatre on West 58th Street. The 6 PM screening will be followed by a reception at the Metropolitan Club on East 60th Street.
Written for the screen and directed by Doubt playwright John Patrick Shanley, the film — due in limited release Dec. 12 — boasts Academy Award winners Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman with Amy Adams and Viola Davis. The Scott Rudin production features costume design by Ann Roth and production design by David Gropman.
The play about a Bronx Catholic school nun who suspects a priest of wrongdoing was a sensation from its 2004 start at Manhattan Theatre Club's Stage I Off-Broadway. Doubt moved to Broadway in 2005, snagged the Tony Award for Best Play (as well as two performance awards and one for direction) and played 525 performances before closing in July 2006. The play also won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The Actors Fund, which was founded in 1882, is a non-profit organization that provides for the social welfare of all entertainment professionals. Some of the many programs The Actors Fund provides include a nursing home and assisted living care facility; senior and disabled programs; mental health services; chemical dependency services; entertainment industry assistance programs; the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative; the AIDS Initiative; and supportive housing on both coasts.
