"Pushing Daisies," with Chenoweth, Kurtz and Greene, Likely Canceled by ABC

By Adam Hetrick
21 Nov 2008

Although there has been no official announcement by ABC, it looks like the quirky, critically acclaimed TV series "Pushing Daisies," featuring theatre veterans Kristin Chenoweth, Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Greene, has been canceled by the network.

E! Online reports that executive producer Bryan Fuller confirmed that the series will be dropped from the network following disappointing ratings. Tony Award-winning actress Chenoweth, who appears as Olive Snook on the series, also confirmed the news during an opening-night interview for her latest film "Four Christmases."

"I think the writers' strike did it," Chenoweth commented to E! Online. "I think that the ratings for all the shows are poor this year and it's not what the networks were hoping for. I'm not sure why ABC decided to ax our show. I know they don't own us, so I know that probably has something to do with it, but who knows?"

A film version of "Pushing Daisies" could tie up the loose ends that will go unresolved if the series should conclude following its 13th episode. Creator Fuller has also mentioned a comic book version of "Pushing Daisies."

ABC is also expected to cancel "Eli Stone" and "Dirty Sexy Money," both of which have drawn less than stellar ratings this season.

Created by Bryan Fuller, "Pushing Daisies" is billed as a "blend of romance, fantasy and mystery" that follows a "forensic fairytale about Ned, a young man with a very special gift," according to a show description. "As a young boy Ned discovers that he can return the dead briefly back to life with just one touch. But his random gift isn't without deadly consequences… as he soon finds out."
