The 30th anniversary holiday concert of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus and the Women's Community Orchestra will be held Dec. 1 at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, CA.
The evening features the debut of Steve Schalchlin's (The Last Session, The Big Voice: God or Merman) new choral/orchestral work, New World Waking! Songs on the Road to Peace, Inspired by John Lennon's Piano. Original Tony-winning Dreamgirls star Jennifer Holliday will sing the final movement of the piece, which will also feature three-time Oscar-nominated actress Piper Laurie.
Artistic director/conductor Dr. Kathleen C. McGuire arranged and orchestrated New World Waking.
The Chorus will also celebrate World AIDS Day with a special tribute, and proceeds from the event will benefit three San Francisco AIDS organizations: Positive Resource Center, Under One Roof and Meals of Marin.
The evening will be recorded for future CD release.
