Craig Zadan and Neil Meron — the producing team behind the Oscar-winning film of Chicago, the acclaimed movie of Hairspray and the recent TV film "A Raisin in the Sun" — have found their latest project.

Playbill.com has learned that the award-winning duo have optioned the rights for the 1980 film "The Idolmaker" with plans to turn the motion picture into a Broadway musical. A creative team is currently being assembled.

Taylor Hackford directed "The Idolmaker," which was penned by Edward Di Lorenzo. The film was based on the life of producer and rock promoter Bob Marucci, who discovered such talents as Fabian and Frankie Avalon.

The motion picture starred Ray Sharkey, Tovah Feldshuh, Peter Gallagher, Paul Land, Joe Pantoliano, Maureen McCormick, John Aprea, Richard Bright, Olympia Dukakis, Steve Peck, Leonard Gaines, Deney Terrio, Charles Guardino, Michael Mislove and Kenneth O'Brien.

Also on Zadan and Meron's Broadway plate is the first Broadway revival of Promises, Promises. The 1968 musical with book by Neil Simon and songs by Hal David and Burt Bacharach was nominated for Best Musical at the 1969 Tony Awards. As previously announced, Tony Award winner Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie) is attached as director-choreographer.

No timetable has been announced for either The Idolmaker or Promises, Promises.
