Myths and Hymns, the song cycle penned by Tony Award-winning composer Adam Guettel, will be seen in Canadian in March 2009.

Talk Is Free Theatre, located in Barrie, ON, will stage Guettel's art song and pop-infused piece that mines Greek mythology and New England Puritanism for its exploration of faith and yearning.

Myths and Hymns will be presented for three performances on March 25 and 26, 2009, at the Gryphon Theatre in Barrie, ON.

"I'm delighted to take this opportunity to present . . . this work by one of the most significant American contemporary musical theatre writers," said TIFT artistic producer Arkady Spivak in a statement. "Mr. Guettel represents the future of musical theatre and I'm deeply honoured to produce his work."

Casting and creative duties for the production will be announced shortly.

Originally titled Saturn Returns, Myths and Hymns was performed in March 1998 at the Public Theater under the direction of Tina Landau. Songs in the work include "Prometheus," "Saturn Returns," "Migratory V," "Pegasus," "Build A Bridge," "Sisyphus," "Hero and Leander," "Come to Jesus," "How Can I Lose You," "There's A Land" and "Awaiting You." A recording of the work is currently available.

A Tony Award winner for his The Light in the Piazza score, Guettel also penned the acclaimed musical Floyd Collins and Love's Fire.
