Tom Beckett Plays 30 Roles in Barrington's This Wonderful Life Beginning Dec. 3

By Andrew Gans
03 Dec 2008

This Wonderful Life, a one-man version of the classic Frank Capra film "It's a Wonderful Life," begins performances at the Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, MA, Dec. 3.

Directed by Andrew Volkoff, the production will play Barrington's Stage 2 through Dec. 20 with an official opening Dec. 5. The one-man show features Tom Beckett, who plays over 30 roles, including George Bailey, Old Man Potter, Mary and Zuzu.

This Wonderful Life, which was written by Steve Murray and conceived by Mark Setlock, is described as such: "It's Christmas Eve as our inconsolable hero George Bailey stands on a bridge, ready to end his life, certain he has failed his family and community. Out of nowhere, Clarence, an eager angel-in-waiting, comes to George's rescue and helps him see what the world would have been like had he not lived. Through a magical series of sequences, Clarence restores George to his family while earning his own wings."

Tom Beckett appeared as Dr. Ostermark in the recent Broadway production of The Father at the Roundabout Theatre Company and Off-Broadway in Travels With My Aunt, for which he received the Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama Desk Award. He is perhaps best known for his role as the quiet "sound effects man," Mr. Foley, on "Remember WENN."

The design team includes Brian Prather (scenic designer), Jeff Davis (lighting designer), Jacob A. Climer (costume designer) and Brad Berridge (sound designer). Renee Lutz is production stage manager.

Barrington Stage's Stage 2 is located at 36 Linden Street in Pittsfield, MA. For tickets call (413) 236-8888 or visit barringtonstageco.org.
