Weisz to Star in Donmar Streetcar; Ashford Will Direct

Rachel Weisz will return to the Donmar Warehouse for a summer run of A Streetcar Named Desire, which is set to open in late July 2009 following the end of the current season that culminates with a production of A Doll's House.
Rob Ashford, who directed the U.K. premiere of Parade at the Donmar Warehouse in 2007, will return to the venue to direct.
Weisz has previously appeared at the Donmar in Coward's Design for Living (in 1994, for which she won that year's Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Newcomer, subsequently transferring to the Gielgud Theatre), and in the Donmar's 1999 revival of Tennessee Williams' Suddenly Last Summer, produced in the West End at the Comedy Theatre. She was last seen on the London stage in the original Almeida Theatre produced staging of Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things in 2001, subsequently playing it at Off-Broadway's Promenade Theatre the same year, later re-creating it for the film version in 2003. She is best known for her film appearances in "The Mummy," "The Mummy Returns," "About a Boy" and "The Constant Gardener" (Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress). Currently awaiting release or in post-production are "The Brothers Bloom," "The Lovely Bones," "Agora," "Dirt Music" and "Sin City 2."
Additional casting and performance dates will be announced at a later time.
A Streetcar Named Desire was last seen on the London stage when Trevor Nunn directed Glenn Close as Blanche DuBois at the National's Lyttelton Theatre in 2002.
