Chicago's Profiles Theatre to Offer An Evening with Neil LaBute in January

By Adam Hetrick
17 Dec 2008

Playwright and filmmaker Neil LaBute will read selections from his forthcoming Broadway play in an evening celebrating his work at Chicago's Profiles Theatre Company on Jan. 3, 2009.

The 7:30 PM evening will feature Profiles Theatre members Darrell W. Cox and Somer Benson reading from reasons to be pretty, and Steppenwolf ensemble member Robert Breuler reading from Wrecks. LaBute will also share a selected reading from his newest work, according to Profiles Theatre Company.

The readings will be followed by an audience talkback session with the actors and playwright.

"Neil's uncompromising approach of confronting the ugly truths of human behavior and his unique use of language has become synonymous with Profiles," said Profiles associate artistic director Darrell W. Cox in a statement. "Our relationship with Neil and our dedication to his work has been the most fulfilling and defining moment in our 20-year history. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for audiences in Chicago to sit in the same room and hear from one of most unique and prolific writers of our generation."

Profiles dedicated its 2007-2008 season solely to LaBute's works, including Some Girl(s), The Things We Said Today and This Is How It Goes. A new, yet-to-be-named LaBute work will open the 2009-2010 Profiles season.

LaBute will make his Broadway debut with the 2009 production of reasons to be pretty. His plays also include The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here, Fat Pig, In a Dark Dark House, Autobahn, bash: latter-day plays, The Shape of Things, and the films "In the Company of Men," "Your Friends and Neighbors," "Nurse Betty," "Possession" and "Wicker Man."

Tickets for An Evening with Neil LaBute, priced $50, are available by visiting ProfilesTheatre, or by phoning (773) 549-1815.
