LAST CHANCE: Liza, Hairspray, Boeing, Frankenstein, 13, Grease and More

By Adam Hetrick
30 Dec 2008

A three-time Tony-winning legend, a hit musical, a beloved holiday classic, a 1980's rock throwback and a mad scientist and his monster take their final bows on the New York stage.

What follows is Playbill.com's weekly "Last Chance" reminder to catch Broadway and Off-Broadway productions before they close.

Concluding Jan. 4

  • Liza's at the Palace...! (on Broadway at the Palace Theatre). The Oscar and Tony-winning show business legend returns to the Palace Theatre for a limited engagement offering highlights from her illustrious career and a tribute to her late godmother Kay Thompson. For tickets visit Liza'sAtThePalace.

  • Hairspray (on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre). The Tony-winning 2003 doo-wop musical concludes its Broadway engagement by welcoming back original Tony-honored stars Harvey Fierstein and Marissa Jaret Winokur; the latter plays the zaftig Tracy Turnblad, who dances her way onto national television and helps to kick start the Civil Rights movement while she's at it. For tickets visit HairsprayOnBroadway.

  • Boeing-Boeing (on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre). The Matthew Warchus-directed revival of Marc Camoletti's 1960's jet-setting farce earned a Tony Award for Best Revival and an additional Best Actor honor for star Mark Rylance. The current cast also features Christine Baranski, Paige Davis, Rebecca Gayheart, Greg Germann and Missi Pyle. For tickets visit BoeingOnBroadway.

  • Dividing the Estate (on Broadway at the Booth Theatre). Elizabeth Ashley, Gerald McRaney, Hallie Foote and Penny Fuller star in Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Horton Foote's comedic drama about a family inheritance. For tickets visit LCT.

  • Young Frankenstein (on Broadway at the Hilton Theatre). Mel Brooks' latest film-turned-Broadway-musical reunited the comic writer with his Tony-winning collaborator Susan Stroman. The mammoth spectacle that brings the popular black-and-white screen comedy to musical life currently stars Roger Bart, Shuler Hensley, Beth Leavel, Fred Applegate, Cory English, Michele Ragusa and Kelly Sullivan. For tickets visit YoungFrankensteintheMusical.

  • 13 (on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre). Tony winner Jason Robert Brown's coming-of-age musical that boasts a cast and band full of teenagers, centers on Evan Goldman, who relocates from Manhattan to "the lamest place in the world" while navigating his way through high school following his parents' divorce. For tickets visit 13themusical.

  • Grease (on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre). The reality television-fueled Broadway revival of the 1950's-set musical, directed by Kathleen Marshall, stars Ashley Spencer, Derek Keeling, Janine DiVita and "American Idol" finalist Ace Young as the rock 'n' rolling students of Rydell High. For tickets visit GreaseOnBroadway.

  • Irving Berlin's White Christmas (on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre). The beloved 1954 film arrives on Broadway in a lavish holiday spectacular featuring a classic snowy Vermont vista. Kerry O'Malley, Meredith Patterson, Stephen Bogardus and Jeffry Denman star as the musical lovebirds in the song-and-dance extravaganza. For tickets visit WhiteChristmastheMusical.

  • Slava's Snow Show (on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre). Created and staged by Slava Polunin, the heart-warming clownfest blankets Broadway in snow after acclaimed Off-Broadway and international engagements. For tickets visit SnowShowonBroadway.

  • Saturn Returns (Off-Broadway at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater). Nicholas Martin directs Tony winner John McMartin, Robert Eli, James Rebhorn and Rosie Benton in Noah Haidle's work that captures glimpses in time of one man's life. For tickets, visit LCT.

  • The Atheist (Off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theatre). Campbell Scott stars as a crooked reporter on the hunt for his next scandalous front-page story in the solo work penned by Ronan Noone. For tickets visit CultureProject.

  • Rock of Ages (Off-Broadway at New World Stages). Constantine Maroulis, Will Swenson, Lauren Molina and Kelli Barrett star in the Broadway-bound eighties rock tuner that features songs by Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia and Whitesnake. For tickets visit Ticketmaster.
