An Evening with Neil LaBute Held at Profiles Theatre Jan. 3

By Adam Hetrick
03 Jan 2009

Chicago theatregoers get an intimate look at the plays of Neil LaBute when the playwright takes part in an evening at Profiles Theatre Company Jan. 3.

LaBute will share a selection from his newest work during the 7:30 PM evening, which also features actors Darrell W. Cox and Somer Benson reading from reasons to be pretty, and Steppenwolf ensemble member Robert Breuler reading from Wrecks.

Following the readings, LaBute will join the actors in a talkback session with the audience.

"Neil's uncompromising approach of confronting the ugly truths of human behavior and his unique use of language has become synonymous with Profiles," said Profiles associate artistic director Darrell W. Cox in a statement. "Our relationship with Neil and our dedication to his work has been the most fulfilling and defining moment in our 20-year history. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for audiences in Chicago to sit in the same room and hear from one of most unique and prolific writers of our generation."

Profiles dedicated its 2007-2008 season solely to LaBute's works, including Some Girl(s), The Things We Said Today and This Is How It Goes. A new, yet-to-be-named LaBute work will open the 2009-2010 Profiles season.

LaBute will make his Broadway debut with the 2009 production of reasons to be pretty. His plays also include The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here, Fat Pig, In a Dark Dark House, Autobahn, bash: latter-day plays, The Shape of Things, and the films "In the Company of Men," "Your Friends and Neighbors," "Nurse Betty," "Possession" and "Wicker Man."

Tickets for An Evening with Neil LaBute, priced $50, are available by visiting ProfilesTheatre, or by phoning (773) 549-1815.
