Ad Campaign for LaBute's reasons to be pretty Seeks Real Bodies

By Adam Hetrick
and Andrew Gans
05 Jan 2009

The forthcoming Broadway production of Neil LaBute's reasons to be pretty is searching for everyday people to be photographed as part of the play's advertising campaign.

Casting director and reasons to be pretty producer Bernard Telsey said in a statement "Neil's powerful play is universal in the way it taps into our emotions about body image. We're looking for real people of all body types to help us create a campaign that expresses what this play is about."

Photographer Howard Schatz has been enlisted to photograph the body parts of eight individuals representing all shapes and sizes for the campaign. Those interested in participating are asked to provide a short story on the body part that they are most insecure about.

Open auditions for the ad campaign will take place on Jan. 8 from 1-5 PM at the offices of Telsey & Co., located at 11 West 43rd Street. Details on the ad campaign auditions are available by visiting the official website for reasons to be pretty at www.doesthisplaymakemelookfat.com.

According to an earlier statement on Telecharge.com, Marin Ireland, Steven Pasquale and Thomas Sadoski have been announced to star in the work billed as a "comic drama" that delves into the American obsession with physical beauty. Official casting has not been announced.

LaBute makes his Broadway debut with reasons to be pretty that will begin previews at the Lyceum March 13, 2009, with an official opening scheduled for April 2 under the direction of Terry Kinney.

In reasons to be pretty, press notes state, "Greg's tight-knit social circle is thrown into turmoil when his offhanded remarks about a female coworker's pretty face (and his girlfriend's lack thereof) get back to said girlfriend."
