Cassidy's Any Day Now Launches Manhattan Theatre Source's InGenius Series Jan. 6

By Adam Hetrick
06 Jan 2009

Manhattan Theatre Source's InGenius Series, featuring works by Joan Tewkesbury, David Caudle, Nat Cassidy, Montserrat Mendez and Richard Vetere, begins Jan. 6.

The five-week series, running through Feb. 7, 2009 features three full-length plays, 13 one-act plays and staged readings of new works.

The first full-length work to get underway is Any Day Now, written and directed by Nat Cassidy. According to notes, "The Colby family is facing its share of problems. Jackie is doing poorly at school, Josh drinks too much, Beverly is far too controlling and Pen is slipping into senility. But that's nothing compared to the difficulties to come. One of their own is found wandering in the backyard, days after he was buried. And, he's not the only one." The cast includes Paige Allen, Arthur Aulisi, Waltrudis Buck, Elyse Mirto, Anna O'Donoghue and Anthony Spaldo. Performances run Jan. 6-30.

Following will be David Caudle's Likeness, under the direction of Jessica Ammirati. "In Colonial Boston, an idealistic young painter scores a career-making gig: the portrait of a wealthy landowner's spoiled daughter. But, there is more to the assignment than meets the eye. Artistic integrity battles ambition, and subject defies artist, as the first rumblings of revolution rattle the studio walls." The cast comprises Brad Fraizer, Laurel Lockhart, Ryan Metcalf, Danielle Quisenberry, Stu Richel, and Erin Wilhelmi. Performances run Jan. 9-25.

The final full-length offering will be Joan Tewkesbury's Retrospective starring Tandy Cronyn (Cabaret, Return of the Prodigal) as artist Georgia O'Keeffe and Sam Tsoutsouvas (By Jeeves, Our Country's Good) as celebrated photographer and husband of O'Keeffe, Alfred Stieglitz.

"It's 3 AM. Georgia O'Keeffe has been invited to write an essay for her late husband, Alfred Stieglitz, on the occasion of his 1978 Retrospective at the Met. During her wee hour review of erotic photographs Stieglitz took of her when they met, Stieglitz shows up. Fact, fiction, intimacy, ambition, and the unfinished business of husband and wife collide. Two artists vying for relevance and control rediscover the fine line between love and hate." The cast also features Sarah Baskin, Emilio Delgado and Michael Wolfe. Performances run Jan. 20-Feb. 7.

InGenius one-act play presentations include selections from Richard Vetere, Montserrat Mendez, L. Pontius, Vanda, Bill McMahon, Vincent Marano, Laura Schlachtmeyer, Ed Malin, John Watts, Pamela Yaco, John McKinney, Paul Jordan and Jennifer Thatcher.
