Moran succeeds "American Idol" finalist Clay Aiken in the role of Sir Robin. Aiken played his final performance Jan. 4.
Moran joins a cast that features Michael Siberry as King Arthur, Merle Dandridge as The Lady of the Lake, David Hibbard as Patsy, Rick Holmes as Sir Lancelot and Bradley Dean as Sir Dennis Galahad. Spamalot will play its final performance on Broadway Jan. 11.
Martin Moran won the 2004 Obie Award for his one-man Off-Broadway play The Tricky Part. On Broadway he has been seen in Cabaret, Titanic, Bells Are Ringing, Big River, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, A Christmas Carol and Oliver!
The musical tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their quest from God for the Holy Grail — with a short stop in the dazzling Spam-filled land of Camelot.
Spamalot earned the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical and took home honors for direction (Mike Nichols) and one of its stars (Sara Ramirez).
On Broadway Spamalot plays Tuesday-Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 2 and 8 PM and Sunday at 2 and 7 PM.
