Tommy Tune to Perform Steps in Time in Stamford in February

By Adam Hetrick
06 Jan 2009

Tony Award winner Tommy Tune will offer his autobiographical musical evening, Steps in Time, as a benefit for the Summer Theatre of New Canaan on Feb. 7.

The nine-time Tony Award winner will join the Manhattan Rhythm Kings at the Rich Forum in Stamford, CT, for the 8 PM evening of song and dance that offers highlights of Tune's illustrious career.

In a statement, Summer Theatre of New Canaan artistic director Melody Libonati said, "[Tommy Tune] personifies the sparkle, sophistication and richness of the great American musical as an art form. Sharing his special talents and reaching out to build awareness of our new theater company is an inspiration to us all."

In addition to the Connecticut stop, Tune will bring Steps in Time to Bethesda, MD; Key West and Stuart, FL; Cleveland, Ohio; Wabash, IN; as well as Livemore, Eureka, Glendora, San Raphael, Palm Springs and Malibu, CA.

A nine-time Tony Award winner, director-choreographer-actor Tune has helped create such Broadway shows as Nine, My One & Only, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, The Will Rogers Follies and Grand Hotel. He helmed Off-Broadway's The Club and Cloud Nine, and he spent two years starring in the Las Vegas production of the spectacular EFX at the MGM Grand Hotel. Tune was seen in the 2006 national tour of Dr. Dolittle, and helmed the new Broadway-aimed musical The Turn of the Century at the Goodman Theatre in fall 2008.

Benefit tickets, priced $200 and $500, which include a pre-show champagne reception and a post-show dessert reception with Tune, are available by phoning (203) 966-4634 or by visiting STONC.org.

Performance-only tickets, priced $40-$55, are available by phoning (203) 325-4466 or by visiting SCALive. The Rich Forum is located at 307 Atlantic Street in Stamford, CT.
