The 35th annual People's Choice Awards, which puts the voting in the hands of the fans, are presented on CBS television Jan. 7.
Queen Latifah hosts the 2009 People's Choice Awards ceremony that airs at 9 PM ET on CBS; check local listings. Among the theatre-related nominees are the 2008 film of "Mamma Mia!," as well as actors Mary-Louise Parker, Sally Field and Patrick Dempsey.
"Mamma Mia!" competes against "27 Dresses" and "Get Smart" for Favorite Comedy Movie, while "The Secret Life of Bees," starring Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, is up against "21" and "Eagle Eye" as Favorite Movie Drama. "Secret Life of Bees" is also nominated alongside "Miss Pettigrew Lives for A Day" and "The Duchess" for Favorite Independent Movie.
"Mamma Mia!" is also listed among the Favorite Cast category; that category also includes the "Sex and the City" film and "The Dark Knight."
Meryl Streep's rendition of the title tune to "Mamma Mia!" is nominated with Fergie's "Labels or Love" (from "Sex in the City") and the Jack White-Alicia Keys duet "Another Way to Die" (from "Quantum of Solace") for Best Song from a Soundtrack.
Mary-Louise Parker, Holly Hunter and Kyra Sedgwick vie for Favorite TV Drama Diva, and "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," starring Neil Patrick Harris, is among the competitors for Favorite Online Sensation.
